SCTV Monument Fundraiser

Join Avenue and fellow hosers Sept. 6 for an SCTV retrospective and fundraiser

In January, Avenue launched a petition, asking Edmontonians to support a push for an SCTV monument. But we believe in finishing what we started. So, please join us and fellow hosers Sept. 6 at the Metro Cinema for a fundraiser and celebration of all things SCTV, as we look back at some of the show's greatest Edmonton moments. (Buy tickets online.)

Update: Joe Flaherty will be in attendance to discuss making the groundbreaking show and Edmonton years. Due to illness, Joe Flaherty has cancelled his appearance.

Together we'll watch classic skits, revel in a creative era, hear from those who were there and work toward our goal of immortalizing this seminal TV show in Edmonton.

Our show is fully endorsed by Second City, the comedy company that launched SCTV and was influential in bringing the show to Edmonton in the early '80s.

“We are thrilled about the prospect of an SCTV monument in Edmonton," reads a statement from Andrew Alexander and Edmonton native Len Stuart, the co-chairmen of Second City. "Edmonton played a significant role in the history of SCTV and the Second City by providing a supportive and welcoming community to some of Canada’s greatest comedic talent. We would be honoured to have such a tribute in Edmonton.”

Tickets are $25 and include two complimentary drinks. Buy them online or call 780-451-1379 to get yours now, because they are limited.

    Damn

So now we are less than 4 hours away from show time and I find out that Joe Flaherty won't be there. With the hundreds of dollars I have spent to own all of the SCTV episodes, I didn't need to spend $48.00 (including my service fee) to watch them on a screen. I was paying the money to see Joe Flaherty. Very disappointed, and don't really want to go now.
